Five local women are getting ready to represent Ireland in the International Irish Ladies Snooker Open in Dublin this weekend at Joey’s Snooker Centre, Harmonstown, Raheny in Dublin.
Annette Newman from Carlow who was the 2015 Champion and current number 1 is in action as is her fellow county women Aine Brennan and Lauren Carley, Louise Maher from Kilkenny is also part of the team.
Grace Byrne is in the Junior Grade.
The competition starts on Saturday 12th August at 11am with the round robin stages, with the knock out stage up to the finals on Sunday 13th August at 11.30am
Om Monday 14th August at 12pm the final of the main event along with the finals of the Intermediate and 6 Red events will commence.
This year there are players from 8 countries participating, Ireland, England, Albania, Egypt, Pakistan, Uganda, Nigeria and Brazil
The Irish players have a strong field with 4 National Champions, Paula Judge from Dublin current Champion, Annette Newman from Carlow, Sandra Bryan from Wexford the 2014 Champion and Cathy Dunne from Dublin our 2004 Champion
Also in the mix of Irish Players is the current National Intermediate Champion Susan Hanlon from Dublin, Tina Keogh from Laois Intermediate Champ 2016 & Valerie Maloney from Offaly 2014 Intermediate Champion
Laura Alves will be flying in from Brazil to try and go one better from her semi final place last year.
The Junior players will consist of Grace Byrne (Carlow) Katie French (Kildare) and Roisin Beale (Kildare)
Our President Margaret Browne will be taking part and hoping to better her Intermediate runner up result from 2016
30 players in total will contest this years International.
