Former Dublin Senior Hurling Manager Humphrey Kelleher says that an early start to the National League is having a massive effect on counties who have 3rd level players involved with the Fitzgibbon Cup campaign.
Speaking to KCLR ahead of the Kilkenny and Dublin clash today(Sunday), Humphrey says that the early start to the League means you don’t get a true reflection of how counties are going this early in the year.
He said “One of the issues that I have regarding it having it too early is that it certainly has a huge impact regarding the Fitzgibbon Cup, and when you have a lot of players that they have been given I suppose leave of absence from the County Panels to play in those and I know that Dublin in particular would have 13 or 14 guys in those various Teams”.
“I have no doubt Carlow IT would have the same type of commitment for county players as well, so you don’t get a true reflection for the County set-up at this time of the year”.
