Gary Conway is the new head coach for Kilkenny RFC.
While the summer is usually awash with Premier League managers doing the rounds, there’s still plenty of changes happening locally.
Hailing from Southknock, New Ross, Conway brings serious rugby pedigree to Foulkstown.
The Wexford man enjoyed AIL time with Waterpark and Dolphin, pro rugby in Milan, Italy and a two year stint in New Zealand. A fluent Italian speaker and an Elite IRFU referee, he’s also enjoyed time officiating in the Heineken Cup, European Challenge Cup, Pro 12 (Pro 14) and the U20s Rugby World Cup.
The news was announced on Facebook late Tuesday night.
Conway takes over the head coaching role for a side who will once again compete in the top tier of junior rugby in Leinster.
Suffering relegation after two seasons in Division 1A last year, the club finished out collecting the 207 Provincial Towns Plate, and took Division 1B with gusto, ensuring a swift return to Saturday rugby.
Kilkenny secured the title with a closing day 32-17 win over Suttonians in May of this year. The club’s AGM is scheduled to take place this Thursday 12 July in Foulkstown at 8pm.
