There is cause for celebration in Bagenalstown this week with the first ever ‘Gathering of the Gaels’ due to take place on Saturday.
With the domestic club season drawing to a close, the Bagenalstown Gaels U20 footballers are still in action, having just completed their three championship group games, picking up two wins and a narrow loss along the way to book a place in the knockout stages.
The real celebration comes this Saturday night at the Lord Bagenal Hotel in Leighlinbridge for the first-ever Gathering of the Gaels at 7.30pm, the event serving as an awards function for the club.
On the night there will be a presentation of several sets of medals won over the first four years of the club’s amalgamated journey, while also providing the first chance for those involved with Bagenalstown Gaels to gather in the one venue and “relax away from the demands of the committee room, the training pitch and the playing fields which has been our nonstop experience to date”, according to club PRO Aidan Coburn.
A funding boost may also be on the way to the club with Bagenalstown Gaels one of a number of clubs taking part in the Carlow GAA Gaelic Bingo initiative that kicks off this Thursday night.
KCLR’s own Brendan Hennessy will be calling the numbers every Thursday night, online from 8pm, with prizes up to €5,200 to be won.
