Gowran Park to “Go Pink” this month for charity

Go Pink in Gowran

So often in the past it’s the pink colours of Rich Ricci’s horses we see grace the track at Gowran Park, however now it’s the turn of the golfer to don pink as they gear up for its pinkest week of the year. From 22-26th July pink is in, as golfers embrace the second running of “Pink Week”.

Proceeds from the week will go to two amazing Kilkenny based cancer related organisations; Cois Nore and Nore Dragon Paddlers. Eddie Scally General Manager of Gowran Park is looking forward to a great golf week and added “after the success of last years event we are looking forward to an even bigger an better week in 2019 and like last year I’ve no doubt golfers will descend on Gowran Park from across the south east”.

To date Cois Nore has supported over 950 Kilkenny individuals and their families through a cancer diagnosis from their drop in centre in Walkin St. Cois Nore offers practical information, listening and support along with a range of individual and group therapies. Dee Hennessey Manager of Cois Nore added we are on a mission to ensure that any family in Kilkenny touched by cancer knows that Cois Nore is there for them and every euro raised is greatly appreciated.

There are many support groups for ladies who have overcome breast cancer but the Nore Dragon Paddlers offer a wonderful combination of physical support combined with a great sense of camaraderie. Irene Doyle from Nore Dragon Paddlers added we are delighted that Gowran Park are supporting us with the Pink Week event and the funds raised will help towards the provision and upkeep of equipment to continue to provide a unique and fun activity for breast cancer survivors. I would encourage women and any male breast cancer survivors to check out our Facebook page and give it a go”.

This year Pink Week is delighted to announce two new title sponsors UPMC Whitfield and KCLR96fm in addition to the daily competition sponsors. Based in Waterford, UPMC Whitfield and UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre at Whitfield offer a terrific service to cancer patients across the south east and are delighted to support two amazing local Kilkenny cancer related charities through the Golf Pink Week at Gowran Park. We hope everyone has a great week and the sun shines down on everyone who heads out to play a few holes. Clodagh Duggan, Network Development Manager at UPMC Whitfield said “both of these great charities support our patients and their families whilst on their cancer journey and we are delighted to sponsor this great event.

KCLR 96fm is the heartbeat of all things happening in Kilkenny and Carlow and are delighted to support this golf and cancer initiative. John Purcell MD of KCLR added “we are delighted to be involved in Pink Week in Gowran Park. It’s a great event for a fantastic cause in one of Ireland’s leading sports and entertainment venues”.

The week’s golf schedule includes events for golfers of all abilities.

Monday 22nd July – Early Bird Singles sponsored by Think Print & Design

Tuesday 23rd July – 3 Person Rumble

Wednesday 24th July – 9 Hole Singles sponsored by Enviroclad Systems
