Graiguenamanagh jockey Shane Foley enjoyed a weekend to remember for Champions Weekend as he rode four winners, including a group one double on one of the marquee racing highlights of the year.

This completed an exceptional week for Foley who rode nine winners in total including two in Galway last Tuesday and three in Cork on Wednesday.

His four winners, all for the Jessica Harrington stable made him leading jockey over the weekend as he rode a treble on Saturday in Leopardstown.

Foley got the ball rolling aboard 25/1 shot No Speak Alexander in a thrilling finish to the Matron Stakes in Leopardstown, before doubling up on 14/1 shot Real Appeal a half-hour later in the Group 2 Boomerang Mile.

The hat-trick was completed when Ever Present defied Top Weight to land the Petingo Handicap.

Meanwhile, the group one double was complete in the Curragh on Sunday when Discoveries repelled the efforts of the Joseph O’Brien-trained Agartha to land the Moyglare Stud Stakes.

Mikey Sheehy

There was further Graiguenamanagh success later in the day when teenager Mikey Sheehy rode the Joseph O’Brien-trained Max Mayhem to win the final race for champions weekend, the Northfields Handicap.

Mikey is having a successful season and he enjoyed a career highlight at the Galway Summer Festival when partnering Sir Mikey Thomas to win the highly valuable Topaz Handicap.
