Republic of Ireland rising star Ellen Molloy has officially joined Sheffield United from Wexford Youths, making the leap to the Barclays Women’s Championship after a standout career in the League of Ireland.
Molloy, who recently returned from a long injury layoff, expressed her excitement at the move: “I can’t really believe it, to be honest. I love the city and got a great feel for the club and everyone involved, so I’m really excited to get started.”

The 19-year-old midfielder has been a sensation since making her debut in 2020 at just 16 years old. Over the course of her time with Wexford, she racked up an impressive 39 goals, showcasing her talent as one of Ireland’s brightest young prospects. Her remarkable performances also earned her a senior international debut for the Republic of Ireland that same year.
Molloy’s accolades are plenty. In her debut season, she was named the League of Ireland Young Player of the Year and secured a spot in the Team of the Season. In 2021, she delivered two goals in the FAI Women’s Cup final, earning Player of the Match honors, and continued her rise with another Team of the Season selection.

Her 2022 campaign was no less remarkable, with 16 goals from midfield, making her the second-highest scorer in the league. However, a serious injury ruled her out for the 2023 season. Now fully recovered and back in form, Molloy is ready to take on the next challenge in her career with Sheffield United.
