New Carlow Ladies football manager Ed Burke believes he has a pool of players at his disposal who can go on and have a special season in 2022.
Carlow were beaten by Antrim in the All-Ireland semi-finals this year and he says their goal for next year’s competition is to come home with the cup.
“From the standard, I have seen and from the age profile of the players, it seems like there is a lot of potential inside of Carlow.”
“There is no reason we can’t get to Croke Park and win that Junior All Ireland Next Year.”
“Everything seems to be going in the right direction under Mark (Previous manager), and I hope to carry it on.”
As with any new management, structure comes the thoughts of a new philosophy. We have recently seen that with niall Carews Carlow team looking to play more attacking football, so we wanted to know what Ed will bring to the ladies side of things;
“Neither attacking nor defensive, we want to improve the decision making. That is the difference between all the levels. If we improve that, there is no reason we cannot make the extra step. It is all about time on the ball, so if we can speed up the thought process & improve it, that will be the major difference going forward.”
One player that Ed will have at his disposal is Clionadh Ni She. We recently saw in the county final for Bennkerry Tinryland that she is at the top of her game currently. We asked how important a player will she be;
“She is massive, top scorer in the junior championship. A hard-working player as well as a scorer. She is an absolutely super talent. It is players like her that will bring on players around her.”
“Alot of opposition will focus on shutting her down, so it will really bring out the best of all the other players around her”
