IT Carlow picked up wins in both hurling and football last night (Wednesday).
DJ Carey’s hurlers, without the services of some of Kilkenny’s standouts, were 1-21 to 2-16 winners over Waterford IT in the first round of the Fitzgibbon Cup at W-I-T Arena.
Carlow’s Marty Kavanagh didn’t show any signs of rustiness from his injury layoff, giving a masterclass on striking clocking up 13 points during the game.
Sigerson Cup
The IT Carlow footballers put in a strong performance to defeated Sligo IT with the final score 2-10 to 0-06.
Carlow was keen to put their defeat to LYIT last week behind them and Pat Critchley’s men were dominant throughout the game.
At half-time IT Carlow held a 1-7 to 0-4 lead and the second half saw little change in the pattern of play.
This win gives the college a fighting chance of making the Sigerson quarter-finals.
