Carlow’s Division 2A Allianz National Hurling League campaign has been nothing short of impressive, boasting a 100% winning start. On Saturday evening, they face a formidable challenge as they go to Laois Hire O’Moore Park to take on neighboring rivals, Laois.

The newly appointed captain, Kevin McDonald, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having been a stalwart in the squad since his debut in 2016. McDonald played a pivotal role in some of Carlow’s most memorable moments, contributing significantly to the team’s successes in claiming The Christy Ring Cup and the Joe McDonagh Cup titles.

Following their recent triumph over Kerry, Carlow announced on Twitter that Mount Leinster Rangers player Kevin McDonald would lead the team this year, succeeding Paul Doyle, who guided the team to victory in the 2023 Joe McDonagh Cup.

In an interview with Kieran Murphy on the Across Four Lakes Podcast, McDonald expressed his delight with the captaincy, highlighting the honor it holds. He said, “There’s not a lot of people out there who wouldn’t like to be captain; it is a great honor to be captain of your county. You’re representing your club and your family and everybody else as well.”

Reflecting on the moment he was asked to take on the role, McDonald shared, “I was actually sitting in the room with Paul Doyle. So it was the case, I am following his footsteps now, and he was congratulating me too. He would have been the captain last year winning the Joe Mac title. It’s when you become captain that you do see how much of an honor it is and how many people will congratulate you on it and give you the best wishes for the year.”

The upcoming clash with Laois is anticipated to be a challenging test for Carlow, and fans can tune in to commentary by Brendan Hennessy and Terence Kelly, courtesy of Ray Whelan Limited.
