“It probably did get away from us” Carlow footballer Eric Molloy laments sides loss to Laois

From Carlow GAA Twitter

The Carlow Senior Footballers could not end their 35-year wait to defeat Laois in a firey affair in Netwatch Cullen Park.

Niall Carew’s side lead by five points at one stage but ended up losing by six in the end.

Carlow goalscorer Eric Molloy says they let their game get away from them, as he and his teammates now face a trip to Leitrim this coming weekend. The game will see the Barrowsiders a point behind their hosts, knowing that should either side come away with a loss they could consider their league campaign over with promotion hopes effectively ruled out.

Outlining how Carew’s side could improve on their performance for their crunch clash, Molloy says they need to be more clever about their work on the ball.

“We looked like we were in the driving seat. We have to look and go over what went wrong. Laois took their opportunities when they got the ball, us, we probably could have been more clever on the ball. Laois did very well to force us to one side, nicking the ball, they pressed hard and took over a few balls.”

“If we were a bit more clever and kept the ball, we probably could have gotten something out of that game. It probably did get away from us.”
