Roma are the latest Italian club to be linked with a move for Republic of Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick.
The Dubliner’s contract at Burnley is set to expire this summer, though manager Sean Dyche is keen to keep him at Turf Moor. 28-year-old Hendrick is also reportedly a target for A-C Milan.
Taken at face value it might seem a strange move but it makes sense. Hendrick is a Premier League proven player, an international and it available for free. Serie A and Italian clubs in general would of been hit hard by the pandemic, and a player with Hendricks work rate and stamina will prove to be valuable this season.
Hendrick will join other Irish Stalwarts such as Liam Brady who played for Juventus, Sampadoria and Inter Milan while in more recent memory Robbie Keane left his boyhood club Coventry to join his boyhood club Inter Milan. Keane has played for all 12 of his boyhood clubs in his stellar career.
