Seemingly he had the hairs standing on the necks of players in the Kilkenny dressing room at half time – and whatever he said obviously worked.
The result this afternoon means James Stephens clubman Jackie Tyrrell picks up a 9th All-Ireland senior hurling medal under Brian Cody, the first time he’s done so with a screw in his foot – and it’s a pretty big screw at that.

In his post match presser, Brian Cody had discussed the injuries to the Kilkenny panel in the run in to this afternoon saying that the Village man had “fought like a dog” to be fit to play today but it just wasn’t to be.
Tyrrell was named on the bench on Friday night but didn’t get to feature in the game, at least on the field. Oh to be a fly on the wall in the Kilkenny dressing room at half time.
