Brian Cody has decided to keep the faith in the side that dispatched Waterford in this year’s All-Ireland senior hurling semi-final, naming an unchanged side for this Sunday’s ultimate showdown with Anthony Cunningham’s Galway side.

Jackie Tyrrell has recovered from injury along with Carrickshock’s Richie Power, the result being both players are named on the bench for this year’s All-Ireland senior hurling final.

UPDATE: Galway announce unchanged side to face Kilkenny

Tyrell had picked up a stress fracture to his foot earlier in the summer, but we had heard from Mick Dempsey at the media night last week and from selector Derek Lyng that he would be resuming some light training with 10 days to go to the final.

With Richie Power, he’s opportunities in the championship this year have been severely curtailed thanks to ongoing knee problems. For Clara’s Shane Prendergast, deputising at number 4 for Jackie Tyrrell, this will surely be a huge moment, equally too for Glenmore man Ger Aylward who starts at number 13, both players heading for their first All-Ireland final.

The players were out on the field in Nowlan Park until shortly before 7pm this evening, Brian Cody calling the players ashore to a team meeting to announce the below lineup.

While team lineups are always subject to change, the extended panel includes Chris Bolger (Clara), Mark Kelly (O’Loughlin Gaels), Kevin Kelly (St. Patrick’s), Brian Kennedy (St. Lachtains), Conor Martin (Emeralds), Conor O’Shea (Clara), Michael Rice (Carrickshock) and James Maher (St. Lachtains).
