As the anticipation builds for the 107th staging of the Fitzgibbon Cup, the provisional panels have been confirmed, revealing an impressive representation from the hurling strongholds of Kilkenny and Carlow.

The prestigious competition, organized by the GAA and set to kick off on January 17th, showcases the best-hurling talents from higher education institutions across Ireland.

This year’s Fitzgibbon Cup features a total of 51 players hailing from the hurling heartland of Kilkenny and 9 from the equally passionate county of Carlow. These athletes will be spread across various college teams, contributing to the fierce competition that defines the championship.

Defending champions, the University of Limerick, find themselves without the services of Kilkenny players Darragh Corcoran and Dean Mason this year, setting the stage for a new era of contenders. The list of players from Kilkenny and Carlow is diverse, representing clubs from both counties and promising an exciting clash of styles and skills.

Among the standout names is Eoin Cody from Ballyhale Shamrocks in Kilkenny, who will be donning the SETU Carlow jersey, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition. Notable players from Carlow include Conor Kehoe of St. Mullins and Chris Nolan of Mount Leinster Rangers, both showcasing the growing influence of Carlow hurling on the national stage.

The provisional panels for various colleges present a mix of seasoned players and rising stars. From DCU to Mary Immaculate, SETU Waterford to UCC, Maynooth to MTU Cork, and SETU Carlow to University College Dublin, the teams are stacked with talent from Kilkenny and Carlow clubs.

With the likes of Ciaran Brennan, Billy Reid, Eoin Cody, and many more gracing the Fitzgibbon Cup stage, fans can expect an exhibition of skill, determination, and passion. As the 2024 Fitzgibbon Cup gets underway, all eyes will be on the representatives from Kilkenny and Carlow, adding an extra layer of excitement to an already prestigious competition.
