It was a big big weekend in the world of local soccer. Carlow went up against Kilkenny in the form of New Oak Boys and Freebooters in the LFA Cup Quarter final. Freebooters lead by a single goal at half time before Dean Kelly grabbed an equalizer after the break. The game eventually ended 2 all after extra time, with penalties on the horizon. The Carlow side ended up winning the game 3-1 on penalties, setting them up for a showdown with North End United of Wexford in the semi finals.
Evergreen are in the other semi final, but they also secured their place in the McCalmont Cup semi final with a victory over Deen Celtic , while Thomastown beat Fort Rangers. Castlewarren Celtic confirmed their place in the quarter final with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Freebooters B in the dying embers of extra time. The other quarter final will be contested by Freebooters A and St. Cainces, after Freshford gave Canice’s the walkover.
