Kilkenny born Colm Whelan named by fellow players in team of the year.

Former Thomastown United Player Colm Whelan has been named on the PFA First Division Team of the Year voted for by the players.

Whelan signed for UCD from Waterford United last year and has gone onto score a staggering 15 goals in 19 games. With Whelan Leading the frontline UCD narrowly missed out on a chance of promotion. At the semi final stage they lost to Longford 3-2.

Longford then went onto win the relegation/playoff decider against Shelbourne.

In a statement to KCLR, Thomastown United Chairman Paul Doyle said ,

“Colm getting picked on the PFA Team of the Year hasn’t come as a surprise to anyone in Thomastown United. Always the professional Colm has always given 100% in trainings and games from a very young age and that carried through to Waterford Under 19’s and their Senior side and then this Season with UCD. We can only predict good things for Colm going forward and wish him well.”

Also named is former Freebooters man Killian Cantwell, 26, who is currently at the heart of the Bray Wanderer’s defence.

Congrats to both from all here at KCLR.
