Shane Purcell says that his son Sean’s World University Games Quarter-Final defeat on Sunday in Russia will be a learning experience moving forward.
Sean from Kilkenny is a Sports Scholarship student in Waterford IT and is Boxing with the Enniskerry Club in Wicklow, and speaking to KCLR, Shane says that Sean has done very well to recover from a severe long-term injury.
“Yeah, look a bit of a back step for the chap, but after having a terrific year of Boxing.
“He had a severe injury there carrying it for the last year and a half and he is after coming back incredibly well and qualified himself to be out here in Elista.
“He Boxed for a bronze medal in the Quarter-Finals, probably didn’t perform anywhere as good as he can perform, these things happen, he wasn’t in the best of form coming into the fight but look it’s all a stepping stone for him leading forward in his Boxing,” he said.
