Kilkenny’s Danielle Randle became the 2016 Ladies Snooker Association National Champion at the weekend with a hard fought win over 2015 champion Annette Newman.
Danielle is the youngest player to win the National title at 20 years old, and she now adds this to her U/21 National Championship win earlier in the season.
On her way to the final, Danielle defeated Valerie Maloney from Portarlington in the last 16, she has a 2 nil win over Christine Carr from Kildare in the Quarters and another 2 nil win over the current number 2 and former National Champion, Sandra Bryan from Wexford to reach her first Championship final.
The final started well for 2015 champion Newman who took the first frame comfortably, however Danielle responded well in the second to bring the frame down to a pink ball, which she potted to level at 1-1. The 3rd frame was scrappy again as Annette potted green to blue and snookered herself on the pink, leaving an awkward pink into the green pocket for Danielle.
However, Danielle composed herself and played a great pot on the pink to secure the frame and match to take the title.
