Local soccer will be back sooner rather than later as the Kilkenny and District League aim to restart the season on June 10th.
They’re looking to run off the KCLR McCalmount Cup, the Divisional Cups, and the Maher Shield competitions with teams playing two games a week.
The schoolboys, schoolgirls, and youths will return to play on the first week in September.
At this stage, the league competitions have been cancelled and will resume later in the year.
We spoke to the Honorary Secretary of the Kilkenny & District League Tom Mullins in March who said at the time that the league was too hard to run off given the current circumstances.
Meanwhile, the Carlow and District League are hoping to run their over 35 competitions but all the other competitions won’t return till the new season.
