Westmeath 1-11, Kilkenny 0-12

Kilkenny have been knocked out of the Leinster U21 hurling championship at this stage for the first time in a long time by a spirited Westmeath side.

The cats will rue a missed penalty five minutes into extra time which was added on due to a head injury of a Westmeath player.

Westmeath shot out of the blocks and led Kilkenny for long spells going in at half time a point ahead 0-09 to 0-08.

Warren Casserly hit the back of the net for Westmeath early in the second half which spurred the lake county on and they went on to win the game 1-11 to 0-12.

They play the winners of Dublin and Wexford on June 15th.

Kilkenny manager Eddie Brennan paid tribute to Westmeath after the game.

Congrats to the @westmeath_gaa U21s heart & REAL desire won out best of luck @BGEHurlingU21

Carlow 1-17, Laois 1-15

Carlow march on to the Leinster Semi Finals after defeating neighbours Laois in Netwatch Cullen Park last night.

Both sides scored all points in the first half with Laois keeping their noses in front and Carlow staying hot on their heels.

Carlow trailed 0-12 points to 0-09 at half time.

Laois continued to put points over in the second half however Carlow kept in touch and pegged them back on a few occasions before Laois hit the back of the net. Carlows Jack Barron also pulled off a fantastic save to keep them in the game.

Carlow and Laois both had men sent off towards the end of the game.

Then with two minutes to go, James Doyle hit the onion sack for Carlow and another point was added on for insurance.

Carlow play Offaly in the Semi final on the 22nd of June.

Great spirit shown tonight. A fantastic victory against a well fancied Laois team who reached a minor final 3 years ago. Offaly up next.
