Kilkenny legend Henry Shefflin has been appointed as the new Galway senior hurling manager.

The news will come as a shock to many as the 10-time All-Ireland winner with Kilkenny takes his first steps into inter-county management.

Shefflin previously had a hugely successful spell in charge of his local club Ballyhale Shamrocks that saw the three-in-a-row county champions win back-to-back club All-Ireland championships in 2019 and 2020.

Davy Fitzgerald had been heavily linked with the job in recent days but multiple sources have now confirmed that Shefflin will be officially appointed as Shane O’Neill’s replacement on Wednesday evening.
