Kilkenny defeated Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Quarter-final yesterday, making it the first time they shall appear in the last four in three years.
A 2-27 to 3-18 victory over Cork with goals coming from Colin Fennelly and Richie Hogan was enough to get the Cats through.
Cork’s Patrick Horgan scored an amazing 3-10 but it wasn’t enough to get the Rebels into the next stage.
Speaking after the game Brian Cody was delighted with his players second half efforts.
“Some of our players did have a tough enough time early in in particular but it showed real character , real resolve and real honesty not to just drop the head and keep going until the very very end”, said Cody.
“The application of our players throughout the field, and obviously the panel, with the players coming off the bench, it was just a heroic effort from everybody.”
It’ll be a massive weekend of Croke Park action at the end of the month with Kilkenny to face Munster champions Limerick on 27th July and Tipperary will meet Leinster champions Wexford on 28th July.
