Kilkenny legend Jackie Tyrrell says that playing in the Feile competition was a huge development in his career.

He was speaking at St. Patricks De La Salle as the GAA President, County Board Chairman Ned Quinn and others gathered to launch the Feile 2017 which takes place in Kilkenny, Carlow and Wexford in June.

Jackie was a Feile winner back in 1996 and speaking to KCLR he says that playing under legends of the game while going to school in St. Patricks De La Salle prepared him perfectly against higher quality opposition…..

“It was a big development in my game and you were getting to play with lads that were a lot better than what you came up against before, and very lucky in St. Patricks De La Salle we had teachers of the calibre of Brian Cody, Paul Kinsella, Matt Ruth.”

“So you have legends of the game that had won All-Irelands and that so it was great to come into that environment here and it was just hurling non-stop in here”

“Any chance we got, we were out on the pitch, we were hurling lunchtime and then there was obviously the class leagues and you played against other schools and that so it was just brilliant, and it was just a great exposure and it definitely put us in great stead putting that base in at a young age of 10, 11 and 12 that when you went in at Under-14 that you were able for these lads”
