Brian Dowling “just can’t wait for the All-Ireland final” against Galway next month following their 2-10 to 1-11 defeat of Cork in Saturday’s semi-final.
Dowling was speaking after Kilkenny’s victory and believes his players deserve all the credit for their epic win.
“I think we got control of the ball in the middle of the pitch, and we started to create chances from there”, said a jubilant Dowling.
Dowling spoke about how he used the underdog tag bestowed upon his team to motivate the players in the build-up to the game.
Speaking about being written off before the game, former Kilkenny senior hurler Dowling said: “We thought that was disrespectful to us.
“I think we showed what we are all about here today.”
Despite the impressive victory, Dowling believes that his team will have to improve to have any chance of defeating Galway in the decider.
“We have to improve because that performance won’t be good enough to beat Galway”.
The O’Loughlin Gaels clubman also highlighted the importance of building on this performance for next month’s final.
“It was the goal to get to the final, but we have to go and win it now. We have to go one better than the last few times we’ve been in the All-Ireland final.”
