O’Loughlin’s, Loreto and St. Kieran’s College played host to the Kilkenny Masters over the weekend as masters basketball returned to the city after an absence of two years.
After three days of games across the three venues, the winners were signed, sealed and delivered on Sunday.
Kilkenny’s masters men’s team (over 40s) have been competing since 2014 and turned from competitors to hosts in 2018 with five teams taking part.
This weekend saw three groups for each of men’s and ladies teams with sides from around the country and UK making the trip to Kilkenny with a total of 28 teams taking part across the over 40’s and over 50’s groups.
Cork, Mayo, Carlow, Kerry, Offaly, Limerick, Dublin, Waterford and the midlands were all represented with over 350 players and officials involved. This was the first year for participation from UK sides as well with Yorkshire, Bristol and the Midlands all represented.
With the success of the weekend gone and an expansion of teams and groups, there’s no doubting 2023 will go on to be an even bigger and better outing.
