Kilkenny Rugby Club have announced Garry Dunne as their club captain ahead of the 2023/24 domestic season.
The 28-year-old is entering his 10th season playing with Kilkenny’s J1 side and rugby and takes over from Jake McDonald who has worn the captain’s armband for the past three years. A product of the Kilkenny RFC youth cycle, Dunne has previously lined out for Leinster Youths (2012).
Kilkenny finished the 2022/23 season losing out to Tullow in this year’s Provincial Towns Cup Final and while they put together something of a solid cup run, their league form was more miss than hit, culminating in relegation on the final day of the season to Division 1B of the Leinster league. They’ll take the place left vacant by Provincial Towns Cup and Division 1B winners Tullow, joining Carlow in the second tier of junior rugby in Leinster.
