Ellen Molloys rehab and development as a standout midfielder will continue at Wexford Youths this coming season.
The 2022 Women’s National League runners-up announced the re-signing of the former Thomastown United starlet after another stellar season for the teenager. Still only 18, it had been thought that Molloy may be on the move last season but an injury picked up midway through the first half of their league clash with Treaty last September brought about an early end to her 2022 campaign and left her out of the running for a place in Vera Pauw’s World Cup playoff squad, instead facing several months of rehab and recovery.
The World Cup ship to Australia may or may not have sailed already but there’s no doubting her international credentials and potential given her rise through the ranks for both club and country to date.
News of Molloy’s re-signing for the 2023 season comes on a day where Emma Walker, Freya DeMange and Siรบn Murdiff were all announced for Wexford’s WNL squad this year.
Winger Shauna Carroll and Louise Corrigan will also be lining out at Ferrycarrig Park this year, having made the move from DLR Waves while last season’s Player of the Year, Emily Corbet of Athlone Town, will feature for Wexford this season with manager Stephen Quinn saying she’ll provide her new club with “an added edge with her quality on the ball”. Corbet registered 20 goals for Athlone last season.
