Kilkenny midfielder and former Evergreen player Gavan Holohan has shockingly left Hartlepool after playing an integral part in getting them back into the football league.

Citing injury and personal reasons on Twitter, Holohan leaves Hartlepool with an impressive 23 goals in 108 appearances. With highlights including bagging the last winner in Hartepools first game this season against Crawley Town and of course the playoff final with Torquay.

The endearing nature of Gavan and the ferocious work rate on the pitch made him a fan favorite with the ‘poolies. As a midfield trio, Mark Shelton, Nicky Featherstone, and Holohan were affectionately known as the Wolfpack. With the ‘pack getting pool back into the football league for the first time in four years.

Gavan has managed two goals this season but has made just 12 appearances for the club. With his last being nine weeks ago, maybe it was not much of a shock for him to decide he needs to adorn another jersey. It is clear though from his Twitter post that the club he joined in 2019, shall always have a place in his heart.

It’s been a hell of a ride @Official_HUFC thank you 💙

Gavan has played with a number of clubs over the years after signing with Hull initially. It was an impressive return to Ireland where he won an FAI Cup with Cork in 2016 and nearly qualified for the Europa League with Waterford that saw him get called back across the pond.

Hi chapter at Hartlepool may be over, but a new one begins. Gavan was announced as a new Grimbsy player yesterday and then lined out for them the very same night grabbing himself an assist in the process. It is believed the deal is for two years, plenty of time to earn promotion once again!

Gavan has always been great to deal with us here at KCLR Scoreline and we just wish him the very best. May now have to order a few Grimsby No.28 jerseys for the office.
