Like Kilkenny’s Michael Reddy and Carlow’s Padraig Amond before him, Gavan Holohan really looks like he’s enjoying his time at Grimsby Town.
Holohan joined the club in March of this year after his time at Hartlepool came to an end, at the time citing injury and personal reasons.
Trailing from a 73rd minute penalty, Grimsby won a free kick on the edge of the Notts County box in the sixth minute of six minutes of injury time at the end of the second half.
Up pops the Kilkenny native with a strike to send Mariners fans into raptures and force extra time with the last kick of the half.
Holohan was subbed off with ten minutes to go in the second half of extra time with what appeared to be a hamstring strain. With the game looking like it was ready to go to penalties, Emmanuel Dieseruvwe bundled the ball across the Notts County line to seal the win for Grimsby Town.
They’ll now go to play Wrexham in the play-off semi-finals this Saturday lunchtime.
