Kilkenny Camogie

The Kilkenny Camogie Intermediate team have been eliminated from the Littlewoods Ireland Division 2 League following a 3-07 – 1-12 defeat against Meath on Saturday afternoon in Birr.

In a tight and cagey affair, both sides exchanged scores in the opening stages as the scoreboard read 0-04  – 0-04 after 20 minutes. Kilkenny took control of the game with a Ciara Phelan goal before two further points from Aine Phelan and Sophie O’Dwyer left five between the teams at half time.

Meath came straight out of the blocks at the start of the second period as they took the lead thanks to two quickfire goals from Megan Thynne and Jane Dolan. Kilkenny responded well and regained the lead with the help of four unanswered points, three coming from free-taker Sophie O’Dwyer.

Meath rallied and levelled with three points of their own midway through the second half. Kilkenny looked to have wrapped up the game late on with two points from O’Dwyer but a last minute goal saw Meath through to the semi-finals at the expense of Kilkenny.
