Kilkenny GAA look set to turn on the more lights at the MW Hire Training Centre in Dunmore, Kilkenny in the new year.
The news that planning has been granted for development works at Kilkenny GAA’s grounds in Dunmore will be most welcome to facility users with works including the installation of floodlights on the pitch closest to the road, albeit with a number of conditions.
- The developer should carry out the works in a manner that no noise, light pollution, air emissions or odors do not impact surrounding areas
- Floodlights should only be used to facilitate training on the site
- Floodlights must never be used after 10pm at night
Speaking about the facility at Kilkenny GAA’s Annual Convention in the past week, Chair Ned Quinn indicated there is more to come for the MW Hire Training Centre, with more fundraising beginning in January.
“MW Hire Park in Dunmore continued to prove itself an invaluable additional venue for the playing of games and for team training. Future plans for the venue include the provision of a modern fully equipped gymnasium together with the installation of floodlighting on the second pitch.
We have joined with Saint Kieran’s college who are seeking to develop a full size floodlight artificial grass pitch which our teams would also have access to, in organising number of corporate fundraising events to help finance these projects. The first of these events takes place in Dublin on the January 26th next and it is anticipated that another similar event will take place elsewhere during the coming year also.”
Kilkenny County Board also confirmed that the grounds in Dunmore will be leased to Kilkenny GAA for the next thirty years.
The application to Kilkenny County Council was made in August of this year, and permission was granted on the 15th of December.
