It’s been a tough time of late for junior rugby, particularly of course for our local clubs Carlow, Kilkenny, and Tullow.
The clubs themselves have faced player shortages and games being called off due to covid cases and close contacts, whether that was on their clubs or the oppositions that they were due to play on a given weekend.
The knock-on effect (pun intended) of that is teams preparations have been disrupted as they can’t gather any momentum in the competition and consistency goes out the window.
Last season’s Leinster league ended up being binned due to the covid situation and arising from that you will have people that leave the set up due to personal circumstances changing and so on.
Last weekend, the Leinster League cancelled the first round of 2022 fixtures.
This weekend, we hope the games go ahead as planned however some corners can’t see that happening.
Kilkenny is due to play Monkstown at home on Saturday in Division 1A while on Sunday, Tullow host Cill Dara and Carlow travel to Wicklow.
The women’s Paul Flood cup games were called off last weekend too, with Tullow due to play in the competition however they’re in action in the Women’s Division One where they play Railway Union’s J1’s away.
