Former Limerick senior hurler Gary Kirby says that the Treaty County will feel confident they can defeat Kilkenny in Sunday’s All-Ireland Quarter-Final.

Kilkenny and Limerick renew acquaintances in Semple Stadium, Thurles, at 2pm on Sunday.

Limerick booked their place in the quarter-finals with a sweeping 5-22 to 0-13 win over Carlow last Saturday, while Kilkenny dropped into the game having surrendered the Leinster title to Galway on Sunday.

Speaking to KCLR this week, Gary says that Limerick will have thrived from the confidence of defeating Galway in Salthill and gaining promotion to Division 1A for 2019.

“I don’t think Limerick, at this stage, fear anyone”, says Kirby.

“I think the big bonus this year has been to get out of Division 2 (1B) which they have been trying for the last 10 years and they have achieved it this year. To go up to Galway and beat Galway above in Galway was a huge boost for them.”

“Going forward that would have brought more confidence to the team and I think they are thriving on that confidence.”

“Oh yeah, I would say there is no fear there. I think they are a confident bunch of lads and I think no matter who they end up playing they will be confident they can beat them, once they put in the effort and things go well.”

We’ll find out how well or otherwise the game goes with full commentary and analysis set for this Sunday at 2pm on air, online and in app.

Kilkenny’s minor hurlers open Sunday’s hurling with an All-Ireland minor hurling quarter-final against Galway at 12pm.
