Limerick senior hurling manager John Kiely believes his squad has regained their form as they aim for a record sixth consecutive Munster title and a fifth straight All-Ireland championship.
The reigning All-Ireland champions dominated Waterford with a decisive 30-point to 2-14 victory yesterday. This win propels Limerick into the Munster Senior Hurling Championship Final against Clare, set for Sunday, June 9th at 4pm in FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles.
The outcome of the match against Waterford also means their opponents are now eliminated from the Championship, while Cork advances to a preliminary quarter-final.
Reflecting on the team’s journey, Kiely noted the lessons learned from their earlier round-robin defeat to Cork. “We allowed ourselves to be bullied. That is just where we were at. I credit them (Cork) for what they did. Fair play to them. “
“Hopefully our response today (against Waterford) has started to build ourselves back to a point where we can look forward again.”
Limerick’s campaign this season has not been without its challenges, including a semi-final league loss to Kilkenny. However, their commanding performance against Waterford suggests that Kiely’s squad is back in top form as they prepare to face Clare in the Munster final on June 9th in FBD Semple Stadium.
With the final approaching, Limerick stands on the brink of making history, aiming to secure an unprecedented sixth Munster title in a row and continue their dominance with a fifth consecutive All-Ireland championship.
