Barcelona captain Lionel Messi is set to leave after the Catalan club confirmed that their record goalscorer will not renew his contract.
Widespread reports have suggested that the Argentinian great was on the verge of signing a new contract that would see his wages be reduced by 50%.
However, that is no longer the case as Messi’s glittering career at the Nou Camp has come to an end.
The 34-year-old had previously tried to leave Barcelona last summer but eventually decided to remain for the final year of his contract. Messi has now gone through with his intention to leave the only club he has ever played for.
The 4-time UEFA Champions League winner has been linked with Manchester City, managed by former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola.
PSG and MLS clubs have also expressed interest in a man who is widely considered to be the greatest footballer in history.
