Kilkenny U21 manager Eddie Brennan says they were never under any illusions about the challenge that Westmeath possessed as their Under-21 hopes for 2016 ended with a shock defeat in Mullingar last night.
A missed penalty deep into injury time meant the cats leaved Cusack Park on a 1-11 to 12 points scoreline.
Speaking exclusively to KCLR, Eddie says they didn’t take Westmeath for granted last night…..
I suppose, sport has thought me that over the years, is that you don’t take anything for granted , we didn’t take Westmeath for granted.
I was fierce nervous about this match, I was under no illusions about what we were facing, this is the same bunch of players that almost took out this minor three years ago, you know we were under no illusions about what we were expecting and one thing I can assure you.
Like I said from my own personal experience, I learned you never ever disrespect opposition and you never take them for granted and that was one thing I can safely say we didn’t do last night.
