Everald Edwards, a key member of Usain Bolt’s backroom team will be
amongst the speakers at a sports conference to be held in Carlow, this
coming Saturday, 27 August. Also speaking is Ireland’s Anthony
“Star” Geoghegan whose Starboard is used by Bolt for flexibility
purposes. Geoghegan, one of Ireland’s leading sports physical
therapists, is the man behind the conference.
The conference, which will be held in the Woodford Dolmen Hotel, Kilkenny Road,
Carlow, will begin at 3pm. There will be a question and answer session
at the conference with a number of the speakers also giving
demonstrations. There will also be training and demonstration sessions
on both Thursday and Friday evenings, 25 and 26 August at St Laurence
O’Toole Running Track in Carlow. The overall theme of the conference
will be “new techniques in sports training and the prevention of sports
injuries”.
Also speaking at the conference will be Dr Larry Such and Dr Gregory
Riviera both of whom have highly successful sports related medical
practices in the US. Dr Laurie Such is the author of a number of books
on speed training and he has worked with a number of leading athletes in
the US. Dr Gregory Riviera is a New York podiatric surgeon who has
worked with many top USA sportsmen and sportswomen.
Everald Edwards, who has been Usain Bolt’s masseur for a number of
years will also be conducting a workshop in relation to Rib Tool
Deloading Tape which is used to help increase blood flow to damaged
tissue, helping the body heal itself faster than otherwise would be the
case.
Speaking at the conference Anthony “Star” Geoghegan said that he was
delighted to have attracted such a world class line-up of speakers. He
said he believed the conference would have something for everybody
involved in sport including participants, coaches, physiotherapists and
administrators.
