Shamrock Rovers player and Kilkenny man Mikey Drennan has announced he’s to take a break from the game.

The 22-year-old former Evergreen striker announced on Facebook yesterday that he’s been suffering with depression for the past three years and wants to take the time out as its been on his mind for some time.

Shamrock Rovers have also released a statement saying “Mikey has the full support of all his colleagues and friends at the club; we wish him the very best and hope to see him back soon.”

Mikey is in his second season at the hoops where last year he picked up the Golden Boot award.

Before that he had a 4 year spell with Aston Villa and spent time on loan with Carlisle United and Portmouth.
