Okay so promotion may be as good as gone for Carlow Footballers again but on Sunday they take on the old enemy Wicklow in the fortress that is Aughrim.

Defeats to London at home and Leitrim away have scuppered Carlow’s hopes of getting out of Division 4 once and for all and as a supporter that really is hard to take after many had believed that this could have been the year.

What’s important now though is that Carlow push on and try build winning momentum.

The win over Waterford last week was encouraging and more of the same will be expected on Sunday, however this often is the rock that Carlow have perished on after a tirade of inconsistencies.

To beat Wicklow for the second year in a row in Aughrim would be a very positive sign and of course there will be an obvious element of shadow boxing in the Wexford game after that with the sides also meeting in the first round of the championship.

Turlough O’Brien has said that third place would be progress and yes it is a positive but for me the only real sign of progression is actual promotion.

Wicklow for their part have flattered to deceive in Division 4 as well so there is no reason why Carlow shouldn’t be stepping across the border and coming away with the points.

If there is anything predictable about Carlow footballers this year it’s that they are unpredictable so it’s hard to know what will happen on Sunday, but lets hope it’s back to back wins.

We Have Full Live Commentary of the game on Sunday at 3pm on the Carlow frequency and on KCLRFANZONE.COM with thanks to Flynns Carlow Nissan
