New Carlow Rugby Club President Ian Dwyer has paid tribute to outgoing coaching staff, committee members and neighbours Tullow in his first address in his new role. Dwyer takes over the reins from outgoing president Justin Hannon.
Also arriving to the club is Steve Ashmore as new club coach. Ashmore was most recently working with the Kilkenny womens rugby setup having previously overseen promotions for Kilkenny’s J1s up to Division 1A of the Leinster League along with consecutive appearances in the Provincial Towns Cup final.
“It is a great honour to be elected President of Co. Carlow Football club for the 2017/18 season”, said Dwyer (pictured above) in his address.
“I have a long and passionate relationship with Co. Carlow Football Club both as a player and administrator. I had the privilege of being elected Club Captain in the 2000/01 season and the ultimate club honour has now been bestowed upon me. In this Presidential role, I will endeavour to be a strong ambassador for our club and will always promote us as a welcoming, family friendly, approachable and professionally run volunteer organisation.”
“A big thank you to the outgoing coaching staff of the first team. Padraig Brennan and David Bermingham are passionate “Club Men” who have provided tremendous service to the club over the last number of years. I hope they enjoy their sabbatical ……..
I would like to wish new club coach, Stephen Ashmore a successful season. Best wishes to all the teams for the year ahead, men’s, women’s, youths, and minis. I hope you train hard, play hard, respect the referee and coaches but most importantly enjoy the year.”
“I would like to congratulate our neighbours Tullow RFC on their Towns Cup success of 2017.
Personally, I have had many battles on the pitch with our neighbours but in the true spirit of rugby I have developed numerous lifelong friendships along the way.”
“The progress of our youth / mini teams will shape our future of the club. Our Under 18s team swept the board this year winning the Leinster League, Cup and South East. The majority of this team started together at under 8 level and all of their coaches along the way played a significant part in their fantastic achievements of the season.”
Next up for Carlow is the kick off of their Tag Rugby season, getting underway this coming Thursday night at Oak Park.
