The final of The KCLR Carlow Shield has been decided.
The first set of fixtures kicked off at the end of August as a pre-curser to the league as a whole. With outside competitions, various fixtures in the shield had to be moved back. The whole competition was wrapped up on New Year’s Day 2022, however after the quarter-finals finished in December, there was a month’s wait for the four teams to meet in the semis.
Vale Wanderers had previously handed New Oak their only defeat of the competition with a 2-1 win in the group stage and thus topped the group undefeated. This time though New Oaks boys got the better of Vale Wanderers by two goals to nil. The goals come in the form of one own goal and one James McGrath goal.
The other semi-final was a repeat of each team’s last fixture, which came in the form of the Nationalist Premier Division. Killeshin managed a three one win the Scats Quakers Park and put a serious dent in Crettyard’s title charge. However this time Killeshin couldn’t make use of home-field advantage and lost out to Crettyard in an exact reverse of the previous score. 3-1
Thus creating a mouthwatering tie between Crettyard United and New Oak Boys in the final.
