We all knew it was going to happen.
In 2021, Liam Cahill turned down the chance to become Tipperary boss, paving the way for former Carlow senior hurling manager Colm Bonnar to take the gig at the Premier. Last week saw Cahill opt out of another year with Waterford as Tipperary cut ties with Bonnar, and now the Ballingarry man will be back wearing blue and gold on the sidelines next season.
His three seasons with the Déise included this year’s national league title, something a lot of fans hoped would drive Waterford on into a positive championship run. They would beat Tipperary in the opening round but defeats at the hands of Cork, Limerick and Clare meant failure to qualify for the All-Ireland series.
A statement from Tipperary GAA confirmed the details on Monday evening.
