Paulstown boxing coach and father of Darren O Neill, Ollie, says there is no decline in Irish Boxing.
Michael Conlan’s defeat yesterday in his Quarter-Final bout ended Irish interest in the Rio Olympics, but speaking to KCLR on last nights “The way it is”, Ollie says there is International success coming through the underage ranks.
“We may forget about Billy Walsh because he won’t be coming back. We will have to get someone, a director of Boxing again along with a top class trainer which we have and a couple of more fellows, that would be my opinion anyway”
“There are serious things ahead for Amateur Boxing but Ireland has always produced Boxers, and we are probably, lads think we are in a bit of a decline now, but I can assure you, there is no decline. Go down through the ranks in all, Schoolboys Champions, World Juniors, World Schoolboys Championships, we pulled two or three winners all the time out of it”
