The college will host the University Finals next February.
Alan Nolan, GAA Development Officer with Carlow Institute is confident this will encourage more prospective sports stars to enroll.
Carlow Institute is already on course to establish itself as a technological university next summer.
Nolan believes these developments will bring Carlow Institute to national attention.
“That will hopefully be a big pull for players coming into the area and that’s exciting.”
Hosting presents an opportunity for Carlow Institute to showcase all it has to offer in the way of modern sporting infrastructure.
It last played host to the Fitzgibbon and Sigerson finals in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
“Hosting it this year is going to be a lot different than 15 years ago. We have our own facilities and we won’t have to use external grounds”.
The college has put significant amounts of money into sporting amenities on campus in recent years.
The Wexford native is pleased that their investment is beginning to pay dividends.
“They’ve really invested in sport because they see the benefit of sport. We’re delighted to have the new south sports campus”
