Carlow’s Colvin O’Brien has a shot at double snooker championship glory this month.
The Carlow town native has qualified for the last 16 of the National Amateur Snooker Championship and has booked a place in the semi-finals of the Intermediate Snooker Championship, due to be played at SBI HQ in Graigecullen next weekend.
O’Brien is the only player to qualify for both national championships this year.
He features in the top-half draw of the 2022 Snooker & Billiards Ireland amateur snooker championships alongside Brendan O’Donoghue (defending champion), Sean King, Martin McCrudden, Mark Tuite, Adam Halnon, Paul McGrane and Greg Casey.
Cork’s Dylan Rees provides the opposition in the intermediate semi-final as an initial field of 40 is down to the last four.
Competition continues today (Sunday) in the amateur championship with SBI’s finals weekend running at the Carlow academy across 21/22 May.
