Racing returns at Kilkenny’s Gowran Park today for the third and final flat meeting of the month.

It’s an eight-race card with the first going to post at 4.35pm, a change to previously advertised times. With a divide, it also means that the courtesy buses provided by Gowran Park from the gates of Kilkenny Castle will be departing at 3.35pm, returning after the final race.

“It’s an intriguing eight-race card that punters have to look forward to this evening at the track”, Gowran Park manager Eddie Scally told Scoreline on Tuesday morning.

“In the first, the 4.35 is expected to go the way of Khafaaq, a horse trained by Andrew Slattery. It looks quite good, is well in there and I think will take a lot of beating in the race. The 5.10 has a small field, four runners – four fillies – but a really high-class race and we expect Mashia, the Dermot Weld-trained fillie to do the business in this race here. Of course, Mashia won earlier last year at the very end of the season, it won at Naas, so this looks a really impressive filly and something exciting to look forward to.”

“Later on the card, Kilkenny trainer Jim Bolger has a couple of runners and this could be a very good evening for him. He’s got Cuban Dawn in the 6.10 and he’s got Finsceal Go Deo in the 7.40 and both horses will have favourites’ chances and of course, Mr. Bolger had a winner last night in Roscommon so the form couldn’t be better.”

“And in the 8.10 this evening the horse that’s taken my fancy for the last race of the day is a horse called Kalmira, could take a lot of beating that race. This morning it’s been called that the favourite has pulled out so Kalmira will probably end up going off at around 5/1 but should have a really good chance. The forecast for the evening is nice warm weather, nice and sunny, the ground description at Gowran Park presently is good ground and we expect it to stay that way for the rest of the day. It’s going to be a nice exciting card for everyone to enjoy.”
