OPINION – Former Kilkenny hurler Christy Heffernan gives his thoughts on All Ireland Quarter Finals

Christy Heffernan

Former Kilkenny hurler Christy Heffernan insists that Waterford need to change their defensive set-up if they are to become more successful.

Speaking to KCLR ahead of Sunday’s All-Ireland Quarter-Final clash between Wexford and Waterford, Christy says that Waterford need to play their attacking players in the right positions…..

“I think the Waterford Team and the Wexford Team are more skillful than ever. I am very impressed with Matthew O’Hanlon at Full-back for Wexford”

“I think he after coming on in tonnes, George O’Connors nephew is playing in the middle of the defence there as well. Up front, they have a few threats up front as well”

“Equally so, Waterford have their marksmen upfront, but unfortunately, the system, they don’t play forwards in the forwards positions so whatever will be will be, but hopefully the system won’t be stuck with for too much longer”

Christy also says that Galway will be motivated by Ger Loughnane’s comments after their Leinster Final defeat to Kilkenny in which he described Galway as gutless.

Speaking to KCLR ahead of Sunday’s All-Ireland Hurling Quarter-Final clash against Clare, Christy says that the Tribesmen will be boosted by the footballers victory in last Sunday’s Connacht Final…..

“Galway, you don’t know what to expect, they can be really really good or they can be very very average, but I’d say last Sunday the footballers winning the Connacht Final replay against Roscommon will give the hurlers a little bit of boost”

“I think they are going to be hard to beat now Galway. For some reason I think Clare will be very happy playing in Thurles as opposed to Galway playing in Thurles. We all know Ger Loughnane, the more controversial you are the better. If Henry or Eddie Brennan was controversial it wouldn’t make as near as much news but Ger thrives on that”
