Champion Amateur rider Patrick Mullins says that the big Amateur Handicap on the opening day of the Galway Festival is a big mark on his calendar.
Patrick says that Galway is a race track where you need plenty of luck…….
“Yeah, it’s a great mix. There is races for everyone there. The Amateur flat race on the Monday is a big mark in my calendar. My father won it on a horse called Paragram at 12 stone 7 and I haven’t managed to match him just yet, but we will keep trying.
When asked whether it is the most competitive amateur race of the entire year, Patrick says…..
“It is, because obviously it’s a handicap and it’s worth a lot of money so big field every year. Around Galway you need a lot of luck. It’s so tight , and you probably need a few pound up your sleeve as well”
