Tinryland overcame Bagenalstown Gaels in a low-scoring affair in the first game of the day with Paul Broderick leading his club to an 8-point to 3 defeat of Eddie Scally’s side. His performance also earned him the Man of the Match accolade after the game where he kicked half the points for his team.
Tinryland chairman Bernard Mullen paid tribute to former intercounty star Broderick after the game.
“Paul’s a class act and this was his stage today.”
“Poor conditions outside, we keep the ball well, bring it up into the areas and Paul will take care of business.”
“The script was written really.”

The second game of the afternoon went right down to the wire as Eire Og defeated Rathvilly on penalties.
The game finished 1-09 to 0-12 after extra time before Johnny Furey made a penalty save followed by the decisive penalty being slotted away by teenager Josh Brady.
The decider will take place at 4 o’clock in Netwatch Cullen Park on Sunday and will be live on KCLR.
